News from Japan

Toru Nakagawa has updated the TRIZ Home Page in Japan, including summaries of the TRIZ meeting in Japan in Sept., his paper presented both there and at ETRIA in Romania, and advance information on meetings in in 2010 in Taiwan (January), Korea (March) and Japan (September).

I appreciate the tremendous work that Toru does to keep the English-speaking world aware of what's happening elsewhere! See The TRIZ Home Page in Japan for a treasure of information. Thanks, Toru!

MORE International Meetings in November

It is not too late: Nov. 23 there will be a meeting in Israel, with a program that is mostly industrial, with some academic and consulting contributions. See www.hit.ac.il/TRIZ09 for details.

Regular readers know that I get very enthusiastic at these meetings--I find it easy to ignore the self-promotional papers and the poorly structured papers (the organizing committees need to do some WORK, not just include everything that's submitted!) because the tremendous value comes from the good papers, the new authors, and the discussions between official sessions. See my 4 postings to the TRIZ Journal www.triz-journal.com/commentary from last week's 4th Iberoamerican Innovation Congress in Santiago, Chile. We have a promise from one author to send summaries of the Israel meeting, but we could use more, and we could use summaries of all local meetings. My personal finding is that when I'm reporting on the meeting, I learn more (is that a good incentive for other people to develop reporting skills?)

I will be reporting from Taiwan in January, but please use the comment feature to let me know about other meetings, and to volunteer.

International Meetings in November

I'll be reporting personally from the 4th Iberoamerican Innovation Congress in Santimago, Chile, next week. Congress 1 was in Puebla, 2 in Monterrey, and 3 in Guadalajara, so it will be a big adventure to move the meeting into South America. I'm looking forward to meeting many people I have only known through e-mail, and many new innovation thinkers.

The European TRIZ Association's TRIZ Futures Conference is exploring new frontiers this week: geographically, in Timisoara, Romania, and structurally, using a single session for the entire conference. The conference is at Politehnica University--see http://www.upt.ro/ for some of the history and current information on this engineering and cultural site.

The theme of the conference is "Innovative product design" and there is a strong mix of academic, consulting, and industrial practioners reporting on their research in many areas of TRIZ. The program, with abstracts, is at
http://www.eng.upt.ro/trizfuture2009/files/Conference%20program%20with%20abstracts.pdf

Reading the abstracts shows that ETRIA has succeeded in one of its goals--by moving the conference to different universities, cities, and countries, they expose many faculty and students to the TRIZ philosophy and concepts. A significant number of this year's papers are by people who first learned about TRIZ this way.

We look forward to having first-hand reports from some of the participants in the TRIZ Journal Commentary column in the next few weeks, and pictures will be posted on the ETRIA portal, http://www.etria.net.
